Which water-based spray cleaner is best for shrimp?
Water-based sprays are commonly used for cleaning shrimp tanks, but their effectiveness for shrimp is questionable.
A study of the Spraysmart Aquarium Water-Based Spray Cleaner showed the cleaner produced fewer bubbles compared to a standard cleaning spray.
The AquaGuard AquaClean Ultra has the most bubbles of any spray cleaner we tested.
However, it also comes with a warning, which the manufacturer says is “for informational purposes only.”
If you’re worried about your shrimp tank, you can use a water-soluble spray cleaner to remove dead and dirty shrimp, but it won’t kill them completely.
If you use a regular cleaner like AquaGuard, you may get some bubbles, but most of the shrimp will still be healthy.
If a cleaner doesn’t work for you, you should talk to your local fish and wildlife rehabilitator to see if they have a specific product you can try.
